Miles Macdonell Collegiate is a grade 9-12 school with over 1200 students in the River East Transcona School Division that offers a variety of academic programming such as French Immersion and the International Baccalaureate Programme as well as a highly competitive and fun athletic program. The Miles Mac Buckeyes Girls Hockey program has been in a part of the WWHSHL since 2003 reaching the division finals on 3 occasions and winning the championship once. Our high school program accommodates players from a variety of hockey and ringette backgrounds. Several of our alumni have returned to assist with coaching the team which speaks volumes for the quality of coaching and sense of comradery that has been established within the program. We have travelled to Fort Frances Ontario to take part in the Scott Clendenning Memorial Showcase Exhibition in 2013 and 2014 as well as to Chicago to play in the Canlan Chicago Winter Girls Classic in 2016.
CTV Division: Congratulations to Kelvin Clippers’ captain Carlyn Allary, who dismantled the River East Kodiaks defensive lines through slick stick work, and secured her team’s 5-0 victory with hot hands, popping in 2 goals and 2 assists.
WFP Division: Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes’ goalie Grace Fedirchuk, who stood tall and stopped some scintillating shots to defeat the Sanford Sabres 2-1, and who continued her prowess the next day, stopping 22 shots to help defeat the SJR Eagles 4-1.
Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes #17 Rebecca Thevenot, who was named the MHSAA Urban Athlete of the Week. Rebecca scored 16 goals and added six assists, racking up 22 points for this #wwhshl season. In her last 16 games, she scored a short-handed goal, three game-winning goals and back-to-back hat-tricks. Rebecca’s coach Jim Webster was quoted as saying “Becky is all hustle, from her fore-check to her back-check, and she never gives up on the play.” Rebecca also maintains an 88% average in the IB program. Way to go Rebecca!
CTV Division: Congratulations to SMA Flames’ Ashley McFadden who led her team to two wins this week with 2 goals including the game winner. Later in the week, she added another goal and an assist for a stellar effort and a 4 point week.
WFP Division: Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes’ Chase Kavanagh who had one assist early in the week in a win for her Buckeyes. Two days later, she scored the game tying goal late in the third period. Her hustle and ability to move the puck in both ends of the ice was superb.
CTV Division: Congratulations to River East Kodiaks’ Delaney Boehm who worked extremely hard in both her team’s games this week, scoring a goal in the Kodiaks’hard fought 3-2 victory over the Westwood Warriors, and preventing additional scoring chances in their next day loss to the CJS Olympiens.
Winnipeg Free Press Division: Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes’ Rebecca Thevenot who had a hot hand in her team’s 3-1 victory over the CLC Scorpions, scoring two goals. The current leading scorer for her team, Rebecca plays hard each game from the moment the puck is dropped until the final whistle.
CTV Division A: Congratulations to CJS Olympiens Brielle Dacquay-Neveux, who’s adept play created a number of break out opportunities, and who’s remarkable goal gave her team the lead late in the game, helping them to defeat the Kelvin Clippers 3-2.
Winnipeg Free Press Division B: Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes’ Olivia Roch, who shut out the Sanford Sabres by making some incredible saves and stopping all 29 shots faced to secure her team’s 3-0 victory.
CTV Division A: Congratulations to Dakota Lancers’ Maddison Stratton, a power forward who assisted on 5 of her team’s 6 goals in their 6 to 0 victory over the Springfield Sabres. Maddison played a great game both offensively and defensively, constantly battling for the puck and being the first into the corners.
Winnipeg Free Press Division B: Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes’ Rachel Chem, who scored 1 goal and assisted on another in her team’s 4 to 1 victory over the Beliveau Barracudas. Rachel played the game with a lot of passion and enthusiasm as she skated hard every shift that she was on the ice.
CTV Division A Congratulations to the Kelvin Clippers’ # 11 Michelle Perron, who made some solid defensive plays, scored an assist and notched the game winning goal her team’s solid 3-0 win over the PCI Saints.
Winnipeg Free Press Division B Congratulations to the Miles Mac Buckeyes’ # 35 Robin Thiessen, who made several difficult stops and worked hard to earn a much deserved shut out this week in her teams’ 6-0 win over the St. Norbert Celtics.
CTV Division A Congratulations to West Kildonan Wolverine’s Alexandria Anderson #18 who was on fire this week, scoring both goals in her team’s 2-1 victory over the CSHC Huskies, and an assist 2 days later helping her team defeat the FRC Centurions 3-0.
Winnipeg Free Press Division B Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes Jessica Gzebb #4, who scored 1 goal and an assist in her team’s victory over the Selkirk Royals, and 3 days later in a thrilling re-match, scored another goal to defeat the Royals 4-3.
CTV Division A Dakota Lancer’s Kelsey Bowerman had a sensational game in net helping them to narrowly defeat the Sanford Sabres 2 to 1. Kelsey’s performance was outstanding as she maneuvered to stop many quality shots.
Winnipeg Free Press Division B Miles Mac Buckeye’s Danielle Fraser had an incredible week, first helping her team to achieve a 1-1 tie against the SJR Eagles and then contributing to their big 3-1 win over the St Norbert Celtics.
CTV Division: Congratulations to St. Mary’s Flames’ Nicole McGlenen, who was on fire against the Westwood Warriors scoring 2 goals and playing inspired hockey as she helped her team with a convincing 4-0 win in a well played game.
CTV Division: Sharing this weeks honors, we also congratulate Miles Mac Buckeyes’ Jalissa Veren , who despite losing to CJS by a score of 5-2 , played exceedingly hard and aggressive in and around the net limiting CJS scoring chances.
Winnipeg Free Press Division Congratulations to Alexee Klassen of the West Kildonan Wolverines, who had a terrific week by greatly contributing in each of the Wolverines 3 victories. Against the St. Norbert Celtics, she made several great offensive plays, generating 3 goals and adding 2 assists in this 7-2 victory.
