Players of the Week ending December 22, 2017

Selkirk RoyalsCTV Division 1:
Congratulations Selkirk Royals Cienna Palmer who helped her team claim two victories this week. On Thursday, Cienna turned her jests on, scoring 2 goals and an assist in her team’s 4-1 win over the Oak Park Raiders, and Friday, she scored another goal and an assist in another 4-1 win over the VMC Trojans. Cienna is the Royals’ leading scorer with a total of 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists), third highest point scorer in her division and fifth overall for the League.
Garden City GophersWFP Division 2:
Congratulations Garden City Gophers Rhea Alves for her outstanding goaltending this week. On Wednesday, Rhea stopped 33 of 35 shots in the Gophers’ heartbreaking overtime 2-1 loss against the CSLR Renards, and then held her ground on Friday, stopping 23 of 26 shots and leading her team to a commanding 7-3 victory over the JH Bruns Broncos.

Players of the Week ending November 17, 2017

Kelvin ClippersCTV Division 1:
Congratulations Kelvin Clippers Martina Barclay, the WWHSHL CTV Division Player of the Week. Martina had an outstanding week, scoring 3 goals and an assist to help her team defeat the VMC Trojans 5-4 on Wednesday, and then she scored the only goal in a heart-breaking overtime loss Friday against the River East Kodiaks. Martina is currently the Clippers leading scorer with 12 points.
Garden City GophersWFP Division 2:
Congratulations Garden City Gophers Alyssa Both, the WWHSHL Winnipeg Free Press Division Player of the Week. Alyssa’s determination and outstanding performance led to a natural hat trick in her team’s 5-1 victory over the Westwood Warriors on Wednesday, and then two days later, she scored another 3 goals and an assist in her team’s 9-2 victory over the CSLR Renards. Alyssa is currently the Gopher’s leading scorer with 10 points.

Garden City Gophers win Winnipeg Free Press Division!

Congratulations to the Garden City Gophers on winning the Division B Championship. The Gophers won game three against the JH Bruns Broncos 3-2 tonight, winning the series and the Championship Title. The Gophers goals were scored at: Period 1, 6:02 by 14-Alyssa Both, 27-Amanda Fiebelkorn; Period 1, 5:50 by 8-Madison Jopling, unassisted; and Period 4, 12:46 by 8-Madison Jopling, unassisted.

The Division B Finalist JH Bruns Broncos were new to the League this year, and can be extremely proud of their strong League and playoff performances. The JH Bruns Broncos goals were scored at: Period 2, 9:34 by 8-Brooke Dali, 19-Sydni Eden; and Period 2, 3:03 by 9-Kelsey Gillian, unassisted.

WFP Finals – JH Bruns Broncos force game 3

In game two of the Winnipeg Free Press Division Championship Finals last night, the JH Bruns Broncos beat the Garden City Gophers 4-2, tying up the series and forcing a deciding game three.

Rock the Rink – Championship Finals Game 2 best of 3 Tonight

CTV and Winnipeg Free Press Division Finals are underway with what could be deciding games in both divisions tonight. In the CTV Division, the second ranked Vincent Massey Trojans lead the series against the first ranked Shaftesbury Titans 1-0, after winning game one 2-1 in overtime. In the Winnipeg Free Press Division, the sixth ranked Garden City Gophers lead the series against the fourth ranked JH Bruns Broncos 1-0, after winning game one 2-1.

WFP Championship Finals – Game 1 Garden City Gophers

In game one of the Winnipeg Free Press Division Championship Finals tonight, the Garden City Gophers beat the JH Bruns Broncos 2:1 and lead best of 3 series 1-0. Garden City Goals (1st period, 10:40): Emily Daniels, assisted by Gracie Grift; and (3rd period, 10:16): Emily Daniels (unassisted). JH Bruns Broncos goal (1st period, 6:18) – Elizabeth Coleman (unassisted).

Players of the Week ending March 3, 2017

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Vincent Massey Trojans’ Taylor McDermott, an outstanding goalie with a hot hand during this playoff week. In game 2 of the series against the St. Mary’s Flames, Taylor stopped all 19 shots headed her way in a 3-0 win. In the 3rd and deciding game, Taylor was once again up to the challenge as she stopped 19 of 20 shots, leading her team to 3-1 win, taking the series and advancing to the Championship finals.
WFP Division:
Congratulations to Garden City Gophers’ Emily Daniels, a relentless forward who helped her team defeat the # 1 seeded team, the PCI Saints, in 2 straight games. In game 1, Emily scored 2 goals as the Gophers surprised the Saints with a 4-3 win. In game 2, the Gophers prevailed 3-2 in overtime with Emily scoring 1 goal and an assist.

Edge of your seat Division B semi-final series ends

The Winnipeg Free Press Division saw one of the most exciting, edge of your seat, semi-finals competitions in WWHSHL history. Proving the old adage ‘anything can happen in playoffs’, the #6 ranked Garden City Gophers defeated the #1 ranked PCI Saints 4-3 in game one and 3-2 in a game two shootout to take the series 2-0. Then League newcomers and #4 ranked JH Bruns Broncos beat the #2 ranked River East Kodiaks in two similarly faced-paced and hard fought 2-1 OT victories to take their 2-0. The Garden City Gophers will face the JH Bruns Broncos in the Winnipeg Free Press Division B best of 3 final series starting March 9.

Players of the Week ending October 21, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Vincent Massey Trojans’ Genevieve Houghton who scored 2 goals in their hard fought 3-1 victory over the tough Dakota Lancers. Genevieve was both an offensive and defensive threat as she carried the play in their victory.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to Garden City Gophers’ Madison Jopling who scored 3 goals and added 5 assists in their victory over Kildonan East, and three days later, chipped in with 2 goals in an 8-5 victory over the Kelvin Clippers.


Players of the Week ending January 15, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Garden City Gophers’ Sadie Sommers. Sadie assisted on one goal early in the week in a loss to the Springfield Sabers; and later in the week against the FRC Centurions, she scored the game winning goal with two seconds remaining on the clock.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to CHSC Huskies’ Natasha Bate on her one goal and two assist performance in her team’s 9-3 win against the Beliveau Barracudas’. Natasha played well in both ends of the ice throughout the contest.
