Players of the Week ending December 15, 2017

CSHC HuskiesCTV Division 1:
Congratulations CSHC Huskies Rachel Gottfried who led her team in points this week, contributing to two big victories. On Monday, Rachel scored two goals and added two assists in the Huskies 6-1 win over the Kelvin Clippers; and on Tuesday, she scored another goal and added an assist in her team’s tight 4-3 victory over the St. Mary’s Flames. Rachel finished the week as the Huskies top scorer with 9 goals, 7 assists and a total of 16 points.
JH Bruns BroncosWFP Division 2:
Congratulations JH Bruns Broncos Erin Nero for her hard work and exceptional offensive play during two nail biting games this week. On Tuesday, Erin scored a goal and added an assist in her team’s 3-2 loss against the Springfield Sabres; and then on Friday, she scored another goal and added an assist in her team’s 4-3 loss against the SJR Eagles. Erin finished the week as her team’s leading goal scorer with 9 goals in 13 games played.

Players of the Week ending February 10, 2017

CTV Division:
Congratulation’s to Shaftesbury Titans’ Haley Proteau for her outstanding offensive play in her team’s two wins this week. Haley started the week scoring 1 goal and 3 assists against the Selkirk Royals (7-4); and although off the score sheet in her second game, she was a dominate in her forecheck and on ice presence against the Vincent Massey Trojans (5-0). Haley finishes the season with 25 points.
WFP Division:
Congratulations to Sturgeon Heights Huskies’ Annaliese Meier for her performance this week. Annaliese scored 1 goal and 2 assists in her team’s win against the Miles Mac Buckeyes (4-3) and the only 2 goals in her team’s loss to the Beliveau Barracudas (5-2). Annaliese has 60 points for the season.

Players of the Week ending November 11, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Shaftesbury Titans’ forward Emily Fraser, who scored 2 goals and added an assist in her team’s 8-0 win over the Oak Park Raiders. Emily was swift with the puck in all zones and extremely dominant in the offensive zone. Emily has 8 points for the season.
WFP Division:
Congratulation’s to Sturgeon Heights Huskies’ goaltender Mercedes Ward, who backstopped her team to two wins this week. Mercedes started the week with a 23 save shutout performance in her team’s 5-0 win over the SJR Eagles. In the final game, she made 22 saves, and showing great rebound control, closed the door in overtime to secure her team’s 3-2 OT win vs. Miles Mac.

Sturgeon Heights claims Winnipeg Free Press Division Title

In a thrilling 2-1 series deciding game, the CSHC Huskies win the Winnipeg Free Press Division title against the Miles Mac Buckeyes. In the final series, the Buckeyes won game one 3-2 in overtime. The Huskies won game two decisively, tying up the series with a 6-2 victory. With well matched talent on both benches, the packed rink of fans remained on the edge of their seats for the entire game three. In the final minutes of the game, Miles Mac pulled their goalie using the six woman advantage to tie up the game. The puck dropped in the Huskies zone for the last time with 5.6 seconds left on the clock, but the Buckeyes would not find the net and Huskies won the game 2-1. Congratulations to the CSHC Huskies, the 2015-16 Winnipeg Free Press Division Champions. And, congratulations to the Miles Mac Buckeyes, First Place Regular Season Team and Winnipeg Free Press Division Finalists. Players of the Week ending March 4, 2016

CTV Division: Congratulations to the backbone of the Kelvin Clippers – Jaidyn Crosby, who was hot against the mighty St. Mary’s Flames, allowing only 3 goals in 3 games for the series and the win. Jaidyn stopped 18 shots in a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to the Flames. In game two, she stopped 16 shots as the Clippers eked out a 3-2 victory in over time. In the series final game, Jaidyn stopped all 22 shots for a shut-out in the 4-0 game 3 series win.

WFP Division: Congratulations to CSHC Huskies Annaliese Meier, a power forward who had 1 assist in their 3-2 over time loss to the Selkirk Royals in game 1; picked up a goal in game two, a 3-2 overtime win; and then scored the game winner in the series final 2-0 win. An inspiration for her team, Annaliese was quick, strong, won most of her draws, and never stopped skating full-out from start to finish in the series.


CSHC Huskies’ Annaliese Meier honoured with MHSAA & CTV Awards

MeierAnnaliese Meier, the CSHC Huskies’ defensive player, currently leads the CTV Division in all scoring categories. With one regular season game remaining, she has already racked up 61 points, scoring 35 goals and 26 assists. Annaliese was also named a WWHSHL All-Star for the second year in a row. “Anna was named one of our assistant captains this year as a grade 10 player because of her leadership on and off the ice.” says Huskies’ Head Coach Greg Mason. “She is a voice of calm in the dressing room when a game is not going our way and looks to encourage others and offers assistance when teammates are struggling. She works hard at practice to develop her individual skills but also takes time to help teammates”.  Annaleise was named MHSAA Athlete of the Week on January 5 and CTV Sports Star of the Week January 25, 2016. Players of the Week ending January 15, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Garden City Gophers’ Sadie Sommers. Sadie assisted on one goal early in the week in a loss to the Springfield Sabers; and later in the week against the FRC Centurions, she scored the game winning goal with two seconds remaining on the clock.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to CHSC Huskies’ Natasha Bate on her one goal and two assist performance in her team’s 9-3 win against the Beliveau Barracudas’. Natasha played well in both ends of the ice throughout the contest.


Players of the Week ending December 18, 2015

CTV Division:
Congratulations VMC Trojans’ Leah Hibbert, a power forward who helped her team to a 4-1 win over the CLC Scorpions by showing great leadership and class throughout the game. Leah made a marvelous play to set up the game’s first goal followed by scoring the short-handed, game winning goal midway through the 2nd period.

WFP Division:
Congratulations CSHC Huskies’ Annaliese Meier, who had a monster week, scoring 5 goals and 2 helpers in her team’s victory over the SJR Eagles and finished off the week scoring 3 goals and adding 4 assists in their victory over the West Kildonan Wolverines.


Players of the Week ending November 13, 2015

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Dakota Lancers’ Sonja Neale who had a huge week, scoring 3 goals in the Lancers’ 4-3 win over the CLC Scorpions, and then 3 days later, scoring 2 goals and an assist in their 7-4 win over the River East Kodiaks. Sonja was the catalyst on the ice for the Lancers as she controlled the ebb and flow of each game.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to CSHC Huskies’ Danielle Chobotar who was a wrecking machine in the Huskies’ 5-0 victory over the Glenlawn Lions. Danielle scored 3 goals and worked exceedingly hard in all 4 corners of the ice as if she owned it. She never stopped until the game ended.


Team Pink events raise $2K for charities

HuskyClassic HuskyClassic2 HuskyClassic3And the tally is in! Congratulations to the PCI Saints and the CSHC Huskies who held special events this fall to raise awareness and funding in support of cancer care and research.

First up on October 20, the PCI Saints held a ‘Pink in the Rink’ event for their opening home game against the Beliveau Barracudas. The players dawned pink from head to toe with ribbons in their hair, stickers on their helmets, and pink tape on their socks and sticks. Even the rink was pink for the event. Donations at the door raised $93.00, which was donated to Central Plains Cancer Care.

Later in the month, the CSHC Huskies hit the ice with special pink jerseys during the 2014 CSHC Huskies Hockey Classic Tournament, raising an incredible $1,982.25 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation through gate admissions, 50/50 and Pink Hoodie sales. The Huskies also raffled off special Pink Huskies’ jerseys signed by 12 of the Winnipeg Jets.
