Sanford, CSLR advance to Division 2 Finals

In game one of the WWHSHL Division 2 semi-final playoff series between the first ranked Beliveau Barracudas and the sixth ranked CSLR Renards this week, the Barracudas defeated the Renards 3-0. The Renards claimed game two with a score of 2-0. Series tied 1-1. In game three, with both teams fighting hard to advance, the period remained scoreless despite power play opportunities for both teams. In the second period, the Renards scored two goals, one breakaway goal at 13:44 (Purdom) and one power play goal just before the buzzer at .06 (Erikson). Both goals went unanswered, and the Renards led after the second period 2-0. In the third period, the Renards scored out of the gate at 19:44 (Purdom, Jeffrey), and then the Renards Purdom scored again at 7:51, assisted by Maitre, for a hat trick and the final goal of the game. Final Score: CSLR Renard 4-0 and the series win.

In game one of the WWHSHL Division 2 semi-final playoff series between the second ranked SJR Eagles and fifth ranked Sanford Sabres, the Sabres defeated the Eagles 6-1. Behind a game, the Eagles came out strong to capture what was undeniably a thrilling, edge of your seat game two. Despite chances at both ends, the goaltenders kept the first period scoreless. In the second period, the Sabres scored the only goal at the 5:52 mark (Drozd). In the third period, the rink erupted when the Eagles tied up the game with a goal at 7:22 (Popel, Sousa). The game remained tied as the seconds counted down to the end of the period, and it seemed like overtime was inevitable. But, with 28 seconds left on the clock, the Sabres Drozd caught a break and potted the game winning goal unassisted. Final Score: Sanford Sabres 2-1.

The Sanford Sabres and the CSLR Renards will face off in the WWHSHL Division 2 Playoff Finals at the Dakota Community Centre March 7, 9 and 13 if necessary. For additional details, check the series schedule.


2017-18 WWHSL Playoff Season Begins!

The WWHSHL Playoffs for the 2017-18 season begin today in all three divisions, and the run up to the final series is sure to be as competitive and exciting as the race to the top during the regular season. At the close of regular season, the first-place teams in each division were the St. Mary’s Flames, CTV Division 1; Beliveau Barracudas, Winnipeg Free Press Division 2, and CPET Canadiennes, Hire Marketing Division 3.

Players of the Week ending January 19, 2018

Miles Mac BuckeyesCTV Division 1:
Congratulations to Miles Mac Buckeyes Kate Stewart, who helped open up the flood gates scoring 2 goals in the Buckeyes’ 7-3 win over the Kelvin Clippers on Monday and scoring the lone goal in their 4-1 loss to the Oak Park Raiders on Thursday. Kate is the Buckeyes lead scorer with 20 points for the season.
Beliveau BarracudasWFP Division 2:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas Jenna Fisette, who was on fire as she scored a goal in their 3-1 victory over the JH Bruns Broncos on Tuesday, and then scored another goal and added an assist in their 3-1 win over the Springfield Sabres on Friday. Jenna ranks as the Barracudas second point scorer with 19 points this season.

Players of the Week ending October 20, 2017

CTV Division 1:
Congratulations to the first star of the season PCI Saints Maddie Shawluk. Maddie and her team mates played their first game against the Oak Park Raiders, squeaking out a 3-2 victory with Maddie scoring one goal in regulation time and popping in overtime winner. Later in the week Maddie also scored a goal and added an assist in their 3-2 victory over the CJS Olympiens.
WFP Division 2:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas Ashley Keller, who was on top of her game during the season’s opening week. Ashley scored two goals and added an assist in her team’s 4-1 victory over the Springfield Sabres. Later in the week, Ashley scored a hat trick in their 3-1 victory over the JH Bruns Broncos.

Players of the Week ending December 23, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Shaftesbury Titans’ Emma Klippenstein aka Iron Woman for 50 minutes of straight end to end play against the Westwood Warriors this week, leaving the ice at the end of period 2, and still managing to score 2 goals and an assist in a brilliant display of stamina and focus. As we end of the first half of the season, Emma is the leading team scorer with 20 points.
WFP Division:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas’ Jenna Fisette who scored a hat-trick in a very tight and hard fought game this week against the stubborn West Kildonan Wolverines, including the tying goal late in the third period of the 4-3 win. As we end of the first half of the season, Jenna is the leading team scorer with 24 points.

Players of the Week ending February 19, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to Kelvin Clippers’ Keyana Lee who displayed skill, determination and heart in helping her team defeat the Garden City Gophers in 2 straight opening round playoff games. In game one, Keyana scored all 3 goals in their 3-0 win, and three days later in a hard fought come-from-behind 6-4 victory, Keyana scored another 3 goals and chipped in with an assist.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas’ Kennedee Hills, who was on fire in the first round of playoffs. In game one against the tough Glenlawn Lions, Kennedee set up her partner for the winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win. In game two, Kennedee came out flying, and in an awesome display of determination and persistence, she scored a hat-trick, securing the 4-2 win.


Players of the Week ending February 5, 2016

CTV Division:
Congratulations to River East Kodiaks’ Kelsey McHolm and Emily Koop. This dynamic duo’s exceptional play secured two important victories for the Kodiaks this week. First in their thrilling 4-3 win over the Garden City Gophers, Kelsey scored a natural hat-trick and Emily claimed 2 assists. Then two days later in a nail-biter against the Dakota Lancers, Kelsey scored another 2 goals and an assist, while Emily also scored 2 goals and an assist, plus a 3rd goal in overtime to secure the 5-4 win.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas’ Marlee Hislop who scored Beliveau’s first goal on a nice end-to-end rush. Showing great speed and determination throughout the game, Marlee helped her team defeat the SJR Eagles 3-0.


Players of the Week ending November 27, 2015

CTV Division:
Congratulations to St. Mary’s Flames’ Jenny Kim who helped lead her team to two victories last week. Jenny scored 1 goal in a hard fought 4-2 victory over the Westwood Warriors, and the following day, potted another goal and a helper in a 2-0 victory over the FRC Centurions.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas’ Jenna Fisette who had a hot hand in her team’s 6-3 victory over the SJR Eagles. Jenna came out strong and worked hard to score 2 goals and 1 assist.

CTV Division:
Congratulations to FRC Centurions’ Cassidy Mazur, who had 3 points including the game winner in OT early in the week. She followed up a couple days later scoring 2 short-handed goals on the same penalty to help her team to the win.

WFP Division:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas’ Signy Schellenberg on her incredible 3 goal game performance this week. Signy scored on the power play, short-handed and even strength for the first hat-trick of the season.


Players of the Week ending December 12, 2014

CTV Division:
Congratulations to CSHC Huskies’ Ashley Ross who scored a goal in their heartbreaking 5-3 loss to the FRC Centurions. Two days later, refusing to settle for anything less than a win, Ashley scored 2 crucial goals – one at the 4:54 mark of the 3rd period to tie the game and a blistering shot with 1:02 remaining securing the Huskies’ 3:2 win against the Oak Park Raiders.

Winnipeg Free Press Division:
Congratulations to Beliveau Barracudas’ Kailey Penner who’s talent and determination repeatedly denied her opponents a glimpse of the net, ensuring a 3-1 victory over the CLC Scorpions this week. Paddle down and glove ready, Kailey stopped 25 – many highlight reel worthy – shots in this gripping and hard fought end to end game. #wwhshl
